News - 31-Oct-06

Since Shinta Mani started developing its community support projects on dd-mmm-yy, their philanthropic work has gone from strength to strength.

With the support and participation of guests and other benefactors, Shinta Mani has achieved far greater successes than were initially anticipated. "We find that the lives of many of our guests are changed after just one excursion to the villages", said Mr Arif, the GM. Mr Arif went on to say, "Our guests experience a whole new realisation; its difficult for those in developed countries to appreciate the level of poverty in Cambodia; their eyes and hearts are opened; they feel compassion and a desire to help. The support provided by our guests is primarily to the benefit of those less fortunate, but their donations are also an uplifting experience for our guests".

Upto 31-Oct-2006, through Shinta Mani projects, guests and benefactors have achieved the following successes:-

Water Wells

201 water wells with hand pumps have been completed, which raise the hygiene and health standards and provide a better life to more than 800 families.

Bicycles

26 Students have benefited highly

47 families in outreaching villages have
received one of these important means of transportation

Piglets and Rice Supplies

142 families are now waiting for the breeds to come, a tremendous additional income.
Each 3 month old piglet can be sold at USD 35

9,490 kg have been delivered to several
hundred families in the outreaching villages.
Each 50kg of rice (with sauces), is on average, sufficient food for one month

School Supplies and Sewing Machines

103 young students have been able to attend school and embrace a brighter future

10 previously "struggling-to-live" women now earn a reasonable income to support their family

A Home

This is the last step in our program, a family will be given a house based on their efforts in earlier programs (planting seeds, growing piglets, sewing clothes, etc), which represents a symbol of sustainability i.e. they have sustainable income, kids go to school and can start helping others.

They are also a good model for their neighbours.

From living in a bamboo house like this...

To having a home that will last at least 2 generations

Eight families are now completely self-sufficient
Our aim is to assist all of our families to become sustainable.
