Community Support Projects

As part of our ongoing commitment to the local community, Shinta Mani, along with it's sister hotel, Hotel de la Paix, is pleased to offer an opportunity for you to participate in the local community support projects.

Build a Brick House (4 X 5 meters) - USD 1200

The only house they ever had is a small shack, as you can see in the picture. The rainy season is a big challenge where the family have to sit through the night holding a plastic sheet above their heads. You can provide them with a brick house including a toilet and give them security and hope for a better life.

Water Wells with Hand Pumps + vegetable seeds (good for 5 families) - USD 90

Access to clean fresh water will dramatically reduce the incidence of diarrhea and infections. During times of drought, it will double the family's income. Later, it will allow the family to grow vegetables and become self-sustainable.

Piggy Bank (Pair of Piglets) - USD 70

This is a live piggy bank. The families are given male and female piglets and we teach the family how to breed them. The pigs can give birth to 8-10 piglets every year. The familes can sell these piglets back to us and earn upto US$700 per year.

Bicycle Procurement - USD 46

Children in Cambodia attend school for half a day, which means the bicycle is not only utilized to travel to and from school, but is also available to generate income. In Cambodia a child must be able to contribute to the family's income if they wish to attend school.

50kg of Rice + Fish Cans - from USD 25

This will feed a family for about a month and allow them to save their earnings for something else.

School Attire & Supplies - USD 15

In Cambodia uniforms are mandatory. The rationale behind this is that no one can distinguish between the rich and the poor.

Text books are provided by the school, but because they consist of newsprint they are very easily damaged and each student must pay for the replacement. These are yet another obstacle and financial burden for the poor family.
